Happy second Friday!
Not that I would know. Without the regular work week to regulate my routine, my days have been flipped upside down. I’ve been getting to bed late and waking up late, and falling back into my old night owl tendencies. It doesn’t help that we’ve been keeping the apartment shades down all day during this heatwave. But I’m making an effort to slowly transition back to regular day/night. I’ve always wished I could be one of those people who wake up naturally at 5am every morning, to have a slow morning and squeeze a work out in before work, but NOPE, that’s never been me!
Anyway, back to outfit talk. I took this photo inside a Patagonia store. I didn’t buy anything but went in to take a look at their swimwear, which by the way, is very limited and surprisingly too complicated. I thought they would have some simple utilitarian one pieces, but no. They carried one patterned swimsuit with complicated straps and mid body cut outs. As much as I love their company ethos, the design and aesthetics of their clothes are generally god awful, barring a few classic pieces they carry. I think I’m going to stick with the utilitarian swimsuit I order from Uniqlo’s online sale.
For the next few weeks, I’ll be taking a swim class to beef up my swim skills. I’ve always been fearful of swimming in the open ocean water after some bad experiences of almost drowning when I was a kid. I’m hoping with more practice, I’ll start feeling more confident about it, especially since we will be living by the beach very soon! (yay).
In this OOTD, I’m wearing that Eileen Fisher jumper dress I mentioned prior and the EF Katniss slides in black. They’ve both been really nice during this heatwave for days when I want to barely wear anything because of the heat but still want to be somewhat put together. The jumper looks a bit juvenile, but I think that’s OK for casual mid summer days. The pockets are great for easy access to my cell phone. I just hate digging through my purse to reach for my cell phone every few minutes. One big downside about this cotton poplin dress though: the amount of lint and pet hair it attracts! I should have known a black cotton poplin would do this, but I didn’t think it’d be quite this bad. My dog has been shedding a ton lately due to the heat. I guess Freddy doesn’t want to get dressed either, ha. I still enjoy this jumper though and will probably wear it a lot over the summer and for travelling.

The simplicity of the EF dress is really lovely! It also looks like it would be great to layer a t-shirt or knit underneath, in cooler times.
That’s so exciting about your swimming endeavours, although swimsuit shopping is definitely a trial. I don’t know if you’ve looked at Speedo, but I still pick my twelve-year old racing suit for open water swimming over anything else. I think they now do more deliberately ‘lifestyle’ pieces too.

I did wear it with a shirt when it was cooler. Mostly it’s worn that way. Hadn’t tried speedo but that sounds like the legit route!

I love those EF Katniss slides! Sadly, they didn’t work for my slightly wide feet (the top of the shoe was a little uncomfortable for me).

aw shucks.. I should’ve mentioned they do run narrow. Even on my narrow feet, the top edge squeezes a bit.
