Hey guys. Thought I’d recommend some things that don’t promote buying stuff. Here’s some goodies that I’m currently reading/watching/listening to:
- Have you listened to the beauty brains podcast? Two cosmetic chemists talk about the science of beauty products and teaches you plenty of helpful tips about what is important to look for, so you don’t waste money on stuff that doesn’t work.
- I’ve been reading It Can’t Happen Here by Sinclair Lewis, a satirical political novel written in 1935 that eerily predicts the rise of Trump, and is probably more relevant today than any other time.
- I’m also reading American Sickness by Elizabeth Rosenthal who tells the story of how our healthcare system grew to be the mess that it is today. It’s actually very interesting and if you want to be prepared for dealing with healthcare before you or your family gets hit by major medical problems, I highly recommend.
- And lastly, I recently watched this criterion collection film by Wong Kar-Wai called In the Mood for Love. The cinematography is gorgeous; it’s a serious movie, with a hint of rom-com lightness, without the cheese. The story is simple, but unfolds in an unexpected way. Don’t be scared away by the fact that it’s in Cantonese. It’s actually very accessible to American audiences, I think.
In the Mood for Love is one of my favorite movies. I’ve always been a fan of Wong Kar-Wai films. I wasn’t too impressed with 2046, but the nods/connections to In the Mood in it were well played. The soundtracks to both are amazing.
