When I’m considering something for my apartment, I’ve found it helpful to vet the object in question:
First ask: is this object truly worth the real estate that it will take up?
Next, imagine the physical space around this object in your home…
… and ask: is this object worth the negative space that it will take away?
These questions implicitly emphasize the value of negative space within your home. I’ve been tempted many times to purchase some thing that I “needed”, but then decided against it when it did not pass these 2 questions. It’s saved me from a few potentially costly mistakes so far.
How about you? Do you have any tips on how to shop more minimally? Would love to hear your thoughts.

I always ask myself how long am I really going to use this… and think about what I should get rid of, so its one in one out.
