considered living: the one day policy

zen habits

Let’s take a step back and consider doing less.  About a year ago, I decided to adopt a ‘one day policy’:  I would set aside one day of every weekend to stay home, unwind, and focus on my personal endeavors.  While my other weekend day is saved for socializing or going out.  This rule has given me the excuse to feel comfortable with saying ‘no’ and has the side effect of only choosing to do things I truly enjoy.  The one day policy has been the right balance for me in my current stage in life, but if I were in my early 20s and single, it might be a different story.  We are constantly pressured to do and consume more, but maybe we should take a deep breath and consider the radical idea of doing less.
